Nella attended Lynden Christian Grade School through eighth grade. She was a charter member of Third Christian Reformed Church. Nella worked as a caregiver and housekeeper for several local families before marrying Bernie Schuyleman on Oct 16, 1946. They were married 68 years when Bernie passed away in July 2015. Now they are once again reunited. Together they had five children: Dennis, Alene, Lois, Arvin and Marlys.
Nella enjoyed being a homemaker and seamstress. She loved caring for her family when they were young, and helping with her grandchildren as they were growing up. Nella enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables for many years, as well as making butter and pasteurizing milk from their small farm. She helped Bernie with their LynBlu Vineyards, stocked the shelves with beer- and wine-making supplies and helped customers. They enjoyed traveling to the east coast to visit Arvin and his family. Mom was a quiet person who sat back and listened to others.
Nella was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be deeply missed by her family. She is survived by children: Dennis (Valerie) Schuyleman, Alene (Paul) Parish and Lois (Dave) Sturtz; daughter-in-law Joann Schuyleman; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, plus one on the way; and one great-great-grandson; sister Wilma Vander Pol; sisters-in-law Marilyn Schuyleman and Clara Schuyleman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nella was preceded in death by her husband Bernie; son Arvin; daughter Marlys; and three grandsons.
Her family thanks the many caregivers of the Christian Health Care Center for their loving care over the past six years.
A memorial service, in her honor, will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, in Third Christian Reformed Church, 514 Liberty St., Lynden.
