Charles Dean

  Charles Dean, age 88, of Sumas, passed away on Friday, Aug. 17, 2018. He was known for his great love of reading, and a passion for learning. He was a great conversationalist, with a calm, kind demeanor.

  Charles was born to parents Frank D. and Julia (Bailey) Dean in Bellingham on Oct. 31, 1929. Charles grew up near Sumas on the Dean family farm along with two brothers, David and Lester.

  Charles was married to Elisabeth Russ on April 19, 1956, in Seckenheim, Germany, while in the U.S. Army. He made serving his country a career when he reenlisted into the Air Force after his discharge from the Army. He retired from his military career in 1974.

  Charles and Lis settled on the family farm raising beef cattle along with various other animals, and tending to their yearly vegetable garden. Charles was a devoted husband and together they enjoyed clamming, fishing and being outdoors. He supported Lis’s interests from painting to cake decorating and was also dedicated to supporting his family.

  Charles is survived by his brother Lester (Yvonne) of Bremerton; and nieces Sandra (Chris) Taylor of Seattle and Keri (Randy) Dean-Wilson and children Isaiah and Asher, all of Kirkland.

  He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Lis, in 2003, and by brother David and wife Nancy Dean.
