Dale Deem

Screen Shot 2015-11-04 at 10.58.39 AM  Dale Eugene Deem, age 66, of Edmonds, formerly of Sumas, passed away in Edmonds on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015. He was born on Feb. 20, 1949, in Abbotsford, B.C., Canada, to parents Ted and Joyce (McConnell) Deem and was raised in Sumas.
  Dale graduated from Nooksack Valley High School in the Class of 1967. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a Specialist 4th Class. Dale worked numerous jobs including Jerstedt Lumber in Laurel; police officer for the City of Sumas; forklift operator for Mountain View Lumber in Abbotsford and Socco Forrest Products in Sumas; and cashier for Yorky’s and Bromley’s Market in Sumas. He retired in September 2012 after working two jobs for almost 30 years. When Dale wasn’t working in recent years, he enjoyed going to the gun range with his friend Gary and going to the theater to watch new movies. He loved animals and was an avid Seattle Mariners fan. In past years, he played softball, football and baseball and enjoyed bowling and taking motorcycle rides.
  Dale was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Joyce Grinsted (Cecil); father Ted Deem; sister Roberta Cornies; and brothers Dennis Deeter and Bruce Grinsted.
  He is survived by his daughter, Shannon Deem of Seattle; brothers Barry Grinsted of Merritt, B.C., Daryl Grinsted of Edmonton, Alberta, and Kevin Grinsted (Janet) of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories; sister-in-law Lynne Grinsted of Airdie, Alberta; and numerous nieces and nephews of the Grinsted and Jones families.
  A memorial service with military honors will be held on Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, at 1 p.m. in the Squalicum Boathouse, 2600 N. Harbor Loop Dr., Bellingham, WA 98225.
