Dennis Drain

Dennis Richard Drain passed away suddenly on Monday, March 11, 2019. He was 72 years old. He was known for his genuine love for people, his generosity and his faithfulness to his family and to his Savior.

Dennis was born to Wallace and Sara Ann Drain on Oct. 14, 1946, in Seattle. Dennis attended Bellevue Christian School for much of his grade school and high school years, but graduated from Garfield High School in 1965. He then attended Multnomah Bible School and Shoreline Community College before enlisting and serving in the U.S. Army for three years.

Dennis married Marsha Gimmaka on March 23, 1968. They lived in El Paso, Texas, and Baltimore, Maryland, before returning to Washington. After earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Washington, he worked at Weyerhaeuser in Coos Bay, Oregon, for one year until deciding to pursue a different career. He joined the Asbestos Workers Union and worked as a pipe insulator, which often required him to travel out of state for months at a time. He and Marsha moved their family to Everson in 1992 and purchased Dunny’s Drive, which they owned and operated for 17 years. He enjoyed drinking coffee with the customers and filling in as a breakfast cook when needed.

Dennis had the incredible ability to see people through the eyes of Christ, seeing the potential and the good in people even when they were at their worst. Caring for those less fortunate than himself came naturally to him, and he often invited people over for a meal or offered his home as a place to stay.

Dennis was preceded in death by both parents; his sister Diane Drain-Herzog; and his brother-in-law Rich Herzog.

He is survived by his wife, Marsha; children Kimberly (Brian) Martin, Darin (Jeannette) Drain, Amanda (Phil) Lohrer, Theresa (Bryan) Barquero, Andrew (Kelsee) Drain and Orianne (Dusty) Timmermans; 14 grandchildren; brothers David and Dale (Tina) Drain; and multiple nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

You are invited to join family and friends to remember Dennis at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at Rome Community Bible Church, 2720 Mt. Baker Hwy., Bellingham.
