Donald Burger

Screen Shot 2015-11-04 at 10.58.25 AM  Sumas resident Donald L. “Duck” Burger, age 86, passed away at home on Oct. 31, 2015. Don was born in Lynden on Sept. 22, 1929, to John and Anna (Haveman) Burger. He was a lifetime resident of Whatcom County. Don married Mary Elizabeth Janicke on July 16, 1948, at Clearbrook Lutheran Church. Together they had a son, Don Jr.
  Donald enjoyed the outdoors and loved fishing, especially for Chinook salmon. He took great joy also in raising Black Angus cattle. For 30 years he drove for LTI and was proud of his safety record and service to the company. He drove the second and third trip for LTI on the Al-Can Highway. Don often said the Jansen family “treated him like a king.”
  Don was a longtime member of Clearbrook Lutheran Church.
  Don was preceded in death by his wife in 2010, Mary Elizabeth Burger; brothers Bill and Ralph Burger; and his parents.
  Donald will be missed by son Don (Viki) Burger Jr.; grandchildren Scott (Heather) Burger, Steven Burger and Shannon (Jamie) Olson; six great-grandchildren; sister Bernice Kanzler; and special friend Karel Jahns.
  The graveside committal will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at Sumas Cemetery followed by a gathering at Clearbrook Lutheran Church.
  The family thanks Whatcom Hospice for its care and kindness during Don’s illness. The family suggests that memorials be made to Clearbrook Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 9691 Van Buren Rd., Lynden, WA 98264.
