Dorothy Leishman
Dorothy (Hanson) Leishman passed away at home on Sept. 18. She was 92.
Dorothy was born in Baudette, Minnesota to Willie and Eunice Hanson.
After training as a lab technician, Dorothy moved to Seattle where she met her future husband, Al Leishman. Together they raised three children and were married for 64 years until Al’s death in 2017. They made their home in Ferndale for 45 years.
Dorothy always lived with a spark for life and the outdoors. She maintained a large vegetable garden, replete with flowers and a sanctuary for birds.
A talented craftsman, Dorothy crocheted, sewed, and canned. Travel captured Dorothy’s heart, and she was as happy at a motel in Billings, Montana she was in Jerusalem, Egypt, Europe or New Zealand. Dorothy was always the first to climb to the highest lookout and the last reading the plaques on the monuments.
Dorothy treasured her grandchildren, always a willing participant in mischief. They are blessed by her legacy: her thirst for knowledge, respect for nature, zest for play, and knowledge of God. Grateful for having the privilege of sharing her life are her children, Terry (Laurie) Leishman, Vaughn Leishman, Margo Leishman (Bil Moorhead), grandchild Rowan Moorhead, great grand child Paige Leishman Garmin. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Al and grandchild Craig Leishman.
Celebration of life services will be at United Church of Christ in Ferndale on Oct. 22 at 2 p.m.
In Dorothy’s honor, the family respectfully requests no flowers. Instead, please donate to the United Church of Christ, Whatcom Hospice House or Lydia Place.
