George Beanblossom

George E. Beanblossom Sr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015. His wife and faithful companion of over 60 years, Gertrude “Gert” Beanblossom, was by his side.

George was born on March 7, 1933, in Julesburg, Colorado, to Bryan and Lucy (Jacobson) Beanblossom. He was the oldest of six children. His family moved to Whatcom County when he was a young boy and he attended local schools. His father passed away suddenly when George was just 14 years old. George helped support his mother and siblings by doing odd jobs. At age 18, George enlisted with the U.S. Army shortly after the outbreak of the Korean War. He served as a Private First Class, 3rd Platoon, 95 Trans. Car with the Company.

Shortly before the war, George was introduced to Gert through mutual friends. After returning home, the couple was married on Feb. 11, 1955.

George loved working with his hands. He dedicated over 28 years to Alcoa Intalco Works in Ferndale, until his retirement in 1999.

His hobbies included woodworking, drawing and painting, watching grandkids at sporting and arts events, RV camping and traveling. He had a wonderful laugh and sense of humor, a twinkle in his eye, and a quiet generosity.

George was preceded in death by his father and mother; sister Betty; and brother John.

He is loved by his wife, Gert; children George Jr. (Jana) Beanblossom, Gary (Janet) Beanblossom and Greg (Carly) Beanblossom; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sisters Dorothy (Al) Brands and Judy (Jan) Pearson; and brother Roy (Margaret) Beanblossom.

A graveside committal will be at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, at Monumenta Cemetery followed by his memorial service at 11 a.m. in First Christian Reformed Church, 1010 Front St., Lynden.
