J. George Van Eschen

  J. George Van Eschen, age 87, of Lynden, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016.
  George was born April 27, 1929 in Geneva, Iowa, to George and Nina (Janssen) Van Eschen. He graduated from Ackley High School, Iowa, and on March 13, 1948, he married Amy Lambert in Austin, Minnesota. Together they lived in Charles City, Iowa, where their three children were born. In 1953, they moved to California where George worked for Langendorf Bakeries. In 1979, the family moved to Whidbey Island, and while in Washington he worked for Svenhard’s, Langendorf and Gai’s bakeries. He retired in 1990.
  George enjoyed golf, traveling including cruises and especially seeing the country with Amy in their motorhome.
  George is survived by his wife of 68 years, Amy, of Lynden; daughters Pamela Hartgraves and Stephanie Diaz; son Douglas Flatley; sister Bernice Viet of Ackley, Iowa; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
  A private family graveside service will be held.
