Joan Brown

Screen Shot 2015-06-03 at 8.16.29 AM  Joan Pauline (Lawson) Brown was born in Bellingham on Jan. 15, 1944, to Andrew (Buddy) Lawson and Nettie M. Lawson. She passed away on May 27, 2015. She grew up in Stanwood and graduated from Twin City High School, now Stanwood High School, in 1962. After high school she began working for First National Bank of Stanwood. Later, Joan moved to Seattle and spent 16 years working for Seattle-First National Bank in the commercial real estate lending department.
  Joan moved to Phoenix and was employed by APS Power Co. where she worked as a budget/project cost analyst until retiring. After retiring, Joan moved back to the Pacific Northwest, which she had dearly missed, and settled near Birch Bay, where she lived with her mother, Nettie Lawson.
  Joan enjoyed gardening, traveling, having tea parties, baking and entertaining. She also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds in her garden.
  Joan is survived by her mother, Nettie M. Lawson, of the family home; her brother, David M. Lawson (Irene) of Custer; her nieces, Rachel (San Diego), Amelia (Nashville) and Andrea (Bellingham); her nephew, Jordan (Bellingham); grand-nephew Rufus; grand-niece Hazel; and other cousins.
  The family especially thanks Hermine Fagan, Janice Sabo, Visiting Angels and Whatcom Hospice for all their assistance and loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation in Joan’s name be made to Whatcom Hospice or a charity of your choice.
  There will be a graveside service at Enterprise Cemetery on Thursday, June 4, at 1 p.m. followed by a reception in Moles-Ferndale, 2039 Main St., Ferndale.
