Peter Bouma

Screen Shot 2015-06-10 at 4.00.07 PM  Peter Bouma, age 90, of Lynden, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2015. He was born on Sept. 23, 1924, in Bole, Montana, to Louie and Nina (Kaptein) Bouma.

Peter served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946. On Feb. 20, 1946, Peter married Nellie Spaans in Corsica, South Dakota, where they farmed until 1951, then moved to Choteau, Montana. There he operated a wheat farm and cattle ranch. In August 1964 they moved again to make their home in Whatcom County. In 1974 he became a real estate agent. He enjoyed anything mechanical and doing lapidary.

Peter is survived by children Jean (Jack) Luteyn of Chilliwack, B.C., Jan (Garry) Lindhout of Blind Bay, B.C., Lou Ann (Ralph) Heerspink of Lynden, Rachel Swift of Bellingham and Lawrence (Ladene) Bouma of Everson; 19 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; brothers Herman (Madelyn) of Michigan and Harold (Johanna), Ralph (Cornelia), John (Edith), all of Montana; sisters Ann Greyn of Montana, Henrietta Van de Lagemaat (Wilferd) and Jennie Luteyn (John), both of British Columbia, and Frances Teuniffen (Larry) of Wisconsin; and sister-in-law Paula Bouma of Montana.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie, in 2010; grandson David Swift; and brothers Henry and Andrew.

Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 10, at 11:45 a.m. at Monumenta Cemetery followed by a 1 p.m. memorial service in Netherlands Reformed Congregation, 8581 Depot Rd., Lynden, with Rev. P. Van Ruitenburg officiating.
