He was born in Yakima to Virgil and Adrie Cobb and was the eldest of four children. His siblings are Lena Marie (and Mick) Vander Griend, Mary Ellen (and Ken) Hamstra, and John (and Hattie) Cobb. Dad married our wonderful Mom, Henrietta Honcoop, on March 23, 1959, in Lynden, and to that union five children were born: Darlene Cobb, Darrell Cobb, Jeff (and Cheryl) Cobb, Kathy (and John) Carroll and Bryan (and Sandi) Cobb. Robert was proud of his 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and loved to hear their stories of successes and challenges. He always had a kind word for the grandkids, no matter what time of day or whether near or far.
In addition to serving in the U.S. Army, Dad also worked in the construction field, building a home for his family and successfully retiring from Western Washington University’s Construction and Maintenance Department, where he worked for 29 years. Dad loved his Gibson tractors and participated in the Lynden Threshing Bee for many years, proudly displaying his tractors and meeting new friends every year. He traveled near and far to visit with friends and fellow tractor enthusiasts. Most of all, our Dad loved Jesus and tried to be a daily example to those around. He always made sure we went to church and youth activities, and prayers were said daily in our home. Our first family meal without him, we all held hands as we blessed the food. May we never be remiss in that tradition.
At Dad’s request, a celebration of Dad’s life was held with close family and friends, where we laughed, cried and told some wonderful stories. We welcome any memories you have of Dad. Please visit www.sigsfuneralservices.com to share those with us. In lieu of flowers or plants, donations may be given to Samaritan’s Purse or Starfish Ministries.
