Robert Huisman

  Robert “Bob” L. Huisman passed away on Oct. 12, 2018 at the age of 74.

  Bob was born Nov. 21, 1943 in Lynden to Jack and Bernice Huisman. He graduated from Lynden High School in 1961. After high school he enlisted in the Army. On Oct. 22, 1965 Bob married Janet Vander Kooi. He retired from the Air National Guard after 22 years of honorable service. Bob worked at TCI where he retired as general manager. After retirement he worked for various places including Skagit Valley Monument Company and the Burlington-Edison School District.

  Bob was a longtime member and past president of the Rotary Club of Burlington. Bob loved camping, fishing, classic cars, cheering on Seattle sports teams and spending time with family.

  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Joyce Huisman.

  Bob is survived by his wife, Jan Huisman; daughter Marlene (Tracy) Whisonant; daughter Melissa (Scott) Goodhead; son Kevin (Cory) Huisman; grandchildren Lauren (Robert) Jansen, Josh Goodhead, Andrew Whisonant, Gwen Goodhead, Kaelyn Goodhead, A.J. Huisman and Avery Huisman; great-granddaughters Anberlin and Reagan Jansen; siblings Gary Huisman, Wayne (Julie) Huisman, Jackie (Don) Schneider, Laurie (Mel) Sires, Jan Martin, Joel (Ceilia) Huisman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

  Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in Christ the King-Burlington Campus, 1000 Fountain St., Burlington, WA 98233.

  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P.O. Box 98018, Washington, D.C. 20090-8018; Rotary Club of Burlington, P.O. Box 185, Burlington, WA 98233-0185; or a charity of your choice.

  The family extends a special thanks to all the staff at Skagit Valley Hospital and the Cancer Care Center who cared for Bob during his illness.
