Silas Workman

Silas Workman, 93, of Sedro-Woolley, went to be with the Lord on July 2, 2018.

He was born Sept. 20, 1924 in Maitland, West Virginia, to Oliver and Elizabeth (Damron) Workman, one of 13 children. His family moved to Ajlune, Washington, when he was a baby. He graduated from high school at 17 and enrolled in Northwest Bible College. As a college student, Silas did many jobs to support himself.

He graduated in 1945 and pastored many small churches in Washington, Oregon and Montana. He met the love of his life, Leona Combee of Lynden, at a fellowship meeting in Blaine. They were married on Aug. 26, 1955 in Lynden. She preceded him in death on June 13, 1992.

Silas never stopped using his pastoral skills, but he retired from Mt. Baker Plywood in 1989. He was a compassionate, loving, caring and grateful man who loved the Lord. He attributed his longevity to being “a positive thinker.”

Survivors include daughter Sharon (Gary) Johnson; son Lonnie (Rosie) Workman; six grandchildren: Andrea Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Desiree Anderson, Devin (Julia) Workman, Jessie Levasseur and Jenna Levasseur; and four great-grandchildren: Hailey, Alize, Keara and Aylana.

A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 28, in Central Valley Assembly of God, 1551 E. Rio Vista Dr., Burlington.
