Washington Street, Portal Way to benefit from state grants
FERNDALE — The state of Washington has awarded the city of Ferndale more than $1.4 million in state grants to allow the city to tackle two road projects.
The Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) grant program awarded the city $744,933 to reconstruct and widen Washington Street between Main Street and Vista Drive.
The work to be done on the road will include repair, planing, LED lighting installation, sidewalk, gutter and curb installation and stormwater and utility improvement.
The program awarded $680,700 for Portal Way pavement preservation between Enterprise and Grandview roads. This work will include digging out substandard sections of the roadway, grinding and overlay. The project may include cooperative design work Whatcom County or a neighboring municipality, according to the city’s post online.
