Wesley ‘Bernie’ Schuyleman

Screen Shot 2015-07-09 at 8.29.55 AM  Wesley Bernard “Bernie” Schuyleman peacefully went home to meet his Lord on July 4, 2015, at the Christian Health Care Center. He was 91 years old.
  Bernie was born in Lynden to John W. and Tillie (Haveman) Schuyleman on Jan. 14, 1924. He graduated from Lynden High School in 1942. Bernie married Nella Haak on Oct. 16, 1946, and together they had five children: Dennis, Alene, Lois, Arvin and Marlys.
  Bernie was employed by Farmers Equipment in many capacities from mechanic to sales. He was a local authority when it came to water systems, whether working with the local water associations or helping develop irrigation systems for Whatcom County farmers. He retired after 37 years of service.
  When he retired, Bernie started his own LynBlu Vineyards and enjoyed beer and wine making. He was a self-taught handyman extraordinaire. He is well known for his sense of humor and uncanny ability to tell jokes to anyone who would listen. Bernie will be greatly missed by family and friends.
  Bernie was a charter member of Third Christian Reformed Church, a longtime member of the Custer Sportsman Club and he served on the Puget Sound Energy Advisory Board.
  He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Nella; children Dennis (Valerie) Schuyleman, Alene (Paul) Parish and Lois (Dave) Sturtz; daughter-in-law Joann Schuyleman; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sister Marilyn Schuyleman; sisters-in-law Wilma VanderPol and Clara Schuyleman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
  Bernie was preceded in death by son Arvin; daughter Marlys; three grandsons; two brothers; and two sisters.
  His family thanks the staffs of Lynden Manor and Christian Health Care Center for their very patient and loving care for him over the last five years.
  A memorial service in his honor will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2015, in Third Christian Reformed Church, 514 Liberty St., Lynden.
