Wilhelma Cowin

Screen Shot 2016-06-01 at 9.18.45 AM  Wilhelma “Willie” M. Cowin passed away peacefully in Lynden on May 21, 2016. She was born on Sept. 19, 1925, to parents Boyd and Ruth (Munkres) Davie. She married Ellis Cowin and together they operated a strawberry farm on Weidkamp Road for over 20 years.
Wilhelma graduated from Western Washington University suma cum laude with a master’s degree in home economics. She touched the lives of many students in her 18 years as a teacher in the Ferndale School District.
Wilhelma is survived by four children: Bruce (Karen) Cowin, Lonnie (Barbara) Cowin, Sherry (Lee) Price and Marilyn (Mark) Tilley; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Dame and Rosemary Kobberstad; and brother Ray (Esther) Davie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ellis Cowin; brother Boyd (Pete) Davie; and one great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 5, at 10 a.m. in the Ferndale Seventh-day Adventist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Christian Health Care Center in Lynden or Bakerview Christian School in Bellingham.
