Dale King

Dale Roy King, age 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017 surrounded by family. He was known by his family for being a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Dale was born in Lyons, Nebraska on Oct. 21, 1930 to Fred and Ellen King and was one of six children. He graduated from Snohomish High School in 1948 and attended Everett Community College before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. Dale served from 1950 to 1954 as an engineman in the Korean War on the USS Suisan and the USS Bonhomme Richard aircraft carrier.

Dale and Bonnie Frederick were married in First Presbyterian Church of Snohomish on Oct. 5, 1956.

Dale was a salesman by trade, which suited his personality well. He loved interacting with people and sold everything from farm supplies to water beds. Prior to his retirement, he took on the role of truck driver.

Dale was a member of the Sea Scouts at Snohomish High School and a Scout Master for the local chapter of Boy Scouts of America. He served in the City of Lynden S.T.A.R.S. program and was a member of the local V.F.W. and a longtime member of Grace Baptist Fellowship.

Dale played tuba, accordion, piano and organ. He was involved in church and community choirs and singing in gospel quartets. He loved to attend LHS sporting events and being at everything his grandchildren were involved in. He liked fishing and camping, playing golf, pitching horse shoes, playing pingpong, and most types of card games. He loved his coffee groups at the Fairway Café and Dutch Treat. He also loved traveling with his wife to California, Mexico and the Alaska cruise.

Dale will be greatly missed by his wife of 60 years, Bonnie; children Mike (Jene) King of Birch Bay, Lauresa (Mark) Robinson of Lynden, and Jon (Corey) King of Lynden; his grandchildren Stephen and Becky King of Louisiana; Jenni, Eric, Alex, Lucas, and Troy Nydam of Whatcom County; and Noah, Emilie and Olivia King of Lynden; great-grandson Elijah King/Draper of Whatcom County; as well as his sisters Norda King, Carole Schweizer and Sue Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ellen King; brother Terrence King; sister Phyllis Rickard; and son Jerry King.
