Julius Brandt

Rev. Julius O. Brandt, age 95, was called home to his Lord on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017.

He was born on June 30, 1922 to Otto and Jeanette (DeVries) Brandt in Holland, Michigan. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and served as a member of the Army Signal Corps in India and Burma until his discharge in 1946. On May 12, 1950 he married Wilma Nyenhuis and together they had two children. Julius graduated from Hope College and from Western Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree in 1957. He was pastor of Faith Reformed Church in Lynden from 1961 to 1977. He also served as pastor of Immanuel Reformed in Belmond, Iowa, and of The National Evangelical Church of Kuwait.

Juke was a faithful and kind man. He had a great appreciation of the natural world and he always loved children, especially treasuring his little great-grandchildren. He was an adventurer, traveling the world, summiting Mt. Baker and camping and hiking with his family. He loved the Lord deeply and his steadfast faith was, and will continue to be, an inspiration to those who knew him.

Julius was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Wilma, three sisters and three brothers. He leaves behind: daughter Jan and son Jack (Pam) Brandt; grandchildren Dana (Amy) Brandt and Bree (Jon) Maberry; great-grandchildren Knox and Hatcher Brandt and Haedyn, Riley and Blake Maberry; sister Laura Folkert and brother Harv Brandt in Michigan; sister-in-law Joyce Pomp in Minnesota; and numerous other relatives.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at Faith Reformed Church, with Pastor Marcus Roskamp officiating, preceded by private burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
