Nell Brink

Nell Brink, age 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017. She was known for her quick wit, sense of humor and a twinkle in her eyes. Nell also had a big heart for taking home-cooked meals to family or friends that needed some encouragement.

Nell was born Aug. 30, 1926 in Sterling, Colorado, to Jacob and Marie (Van Wyke) Kostelyk. She had one sister and three brothers. When Nell was 2, the family moved to Lynden, settling on their Northwood Road farm. She attended Lynden Christian Grade School and Lynden High School, where she met Alfred Brink. Nell and Al were married on Nov. 5, 1942 and raised four sons: Wayne, Doug, Bryan and Jeff.

Nell loved to sew, garden, play golf, sing in the church choir and go for coffee with her lady friends. Nothing could light up her eyes like buying gifts for her grandchildren and sending encouraging cards to her family and friends. She was known for being a wonderful cook and fixing healthy meals.

Nell was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Alfred; her parents, Jacob and Marie Kostelyk; brothers Jack, John and Jacob; son Doug and daughter-in-law Nancy.

She is survived by sons Wayne (Jan), Bryan (Jeanine) and Jeff (Connie); sister Terry (Howard) Huntley; 22 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In honor and celebration of Nell’s life, a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, in Second Christian Reformed Church, Lynden, with Pastor Ben deRegt officiating.
